Tim Matthews, a former financier in the City, set up a new church in Bournemouth, (St Swithun's) in 2014. Three years on it is proving incredibly successful, against a backdrop of declining church attendance. This is the story of how it happened, why people are turning up in their droves, and how church has the ability to hold our society together.
Tim is a Church of England priest who leads the team at LOVECHURCH Bournemouth. Begun as a church plant, St Swithun’s, from HTB four years ago with only 11 people and in 2017, St Swithun’s partnered with St Clement’s in Boscombe and its two church schools in order to relaunch that site for local mission.
LOVECHURCH focuses on reaching unchurched younger generations. The church now sees hundreds of young people attend each week and is active in social transformation ministries, targeting acute local issues such as homelessness, addiction and personal debt. Tim is married to Debi, they have three young children Josiah, Caleb and Rebekah and surfs or windsurfs as often as he can.
“The highs lows and Love of setting up a new Church”
A very honest and personal account of setting up a new Church and church family. Tim has not held back on his failures and has been generous enough to share them and show how he has learnt from them.
“Honest and inspiring”
This is an honest and completely inspiring look behind the scenes at one of the most exciting stories of church growth and changed lives in the UK today. I was captivated by the humble, transparent and God-focused nature of the story telling. You’ll come away feeling excited and expectant for your own faith adventure with Jesus.
“An open, raw & honest book about church planting in Bournemouth”
Tims openness to admit & share his faults, fears, failures make it so relatable as well as inspiring to not give up even when things seem all is lost!!
Meet Dan, we hope that something of his story will remind you of God's goodness.
